Notes: June 3, 2008 - Joshua 20 & 21

Bob Feather June 3rd, 2008

In these chapters the cities given to the Levites, including the cities of refuge, are described.

  • Remember that the Levites were to be satisfied with being priests unto God (Joshua 18:7). Nevertheless, they required food and lodging just as much as the other tribes. Those who benefited from the Levitical ministry were to minister to the Levites in their physical needs.
  • How many times have we read about these cities of refuge? God wants to make sure that men receive a fair trial.  And you can be sure that on judgment day, your trial before God will be fair.
  • 48 cities were declared to be Levite cities (Joshua 20:41).
  • Joshua 21:43-45. God had kept His promises to the ancestors of Israel, even though they had been unfaithful to Him.

Joshua 18:7
7But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance: and Gad, and Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh, have received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them.
Joshua 21:43-45
43And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.
44And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.
45There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.
