Psalm 116

Do you love the LORD? Why? (Psalm 116:1)

  • Has He listened to you (v 2)?
  • Has He saved you from any trouble (v 3-4)?
  • Has He been gracious to you (v 5)?
  • Has He preserved you (v 6)?
  • Has He dealt bountifully with you (v 7)?
  • Has He kept you from falling (v 8)?

Why do some people talk about the Lord all the time? Because they believe (Psalm 116:10).

What can you do to show God your appreciation for all of His benefits toward you (v 12-19)

  • You can call upon the name of the Lord privately (v 13)
  • You can join others in praising God publicly (v 14, 18-19)
  • You can be thankful (v 17)

Psalm 117

Praise the Lord because

  • His mercy is great
  • His truth is forever

Psalm 118

  • A personal testimony of how God has helped (v 1-19)
  • A pious desire to be in the house of the Lord (v 20-29)

Meditation Points:

  1. Psalm 118:22-23. New Testament’s interpretation? This is about Jesus, His resurrection and His church! Matthew 21:42; Mark 12:10-11; Luke 20:17; Acts 4:11; Ephesians 2:20-22; 1 Peter 2:4-8.
  2. This is the day that the Lord has made (Psalm 118:24)-the day of Christ’s victory over death. Yes, what cause for joy!

Psalm 116:1
1I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.
Psalm 116:10
10I believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted:
Psalm 118:22-23
22The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
23This is the LORD's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
Matthew 21:42
42Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
Mark 12:10-11
10And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:
11This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
Luke 20:17
17And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
Acts 4:11
11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Ephesians 2:20-22
20And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
1 Peter 2:4-8
4To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
Psalm 118:24
24This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
