Martha, Martha

When Jesus spoke these words, surely she listened.

Luke 10:38-42

• Jesus was invited to Martha’s house.
• While he was teaching, her sister Mary listened intently.
• Martha was busy preparing and serving food.
• At an opportune moment, she chided Jesus for not encouraging Mary to help in the kitchen.
• Jesus, however, used the opportunity to chide Martha for her over concern for food preparation, and to praise Mary for her decision to listen to the teaching about God.
